Vectro Web Hosting and x Proxy Host are going out of business because the company has fallen behind financially in recent times. As a result of this, it has fallen behind on making server payments. There have been a lot of proxy sites and other web companies going out of business, mostly because of Google AdSense cancellations in the web proxy niche.

Yesterday, I e-mailed InterServer, the dedicated server provider used by Vectro, to inform them that I would not be able to pay my debt as a result of the downturn in business. Generally, they have been more than generous about keeping the servers online during this time of difficulty. I opened the lines of communication and let them know I would not be able to make payments. I had the hope that after the discussion started rolling, I would eventually be able to work something out where the servers would be kept online for a week or two while I help customers find new hosting. I woke up this morning to find out that a major shareholder at InterServer ordered the support technicians to shut down all of the Vectro servers and there was no reply to the message I sent them the night before. I contacted the shareholder in question via e-mail. He wrote back refusing to give us all time to transition to new hosting. He said the entire bill has to be paid if the servers are to go back online, which I am not able to do at this time. After 15 e-mails back and forth pleading with him, it became clear that he is not willing to compromise. I have been doing business with this company since 2006, which is a little over 7 years. In the span of that time, my company has spent over $40,000 on services with them.

I contacted a company who I provide regular IT consulting services to and asked them if they would be willing to pay in advance for some of their usual services. They offered to pay me $1,000, which I figured I would pay to the dedicated server provider. I again contacted the major shareholder and offered to pay the amount of $1,000 to him in exchange for a small amount of time to keep the services active while everyone finds new hosting. He declined the offer and refused to turn the servers back on.

Unfortunately, the shareholder at InterServer will not allow the download of backups unless hosting is purchased directly from them and specific permission is given to you. There is no way to recover data except to purchase hosting from them. If you sign up, you will have to send an e-mail and ask them for special permission to have your site transferred.

Refunds for people who paid for hosting will be rolled out in phases over a 120 day period. I cannot make specific promises as to when each individual will receive one, but people are entitled to receive back what they paid.

I have owned businesses before and one went under in the past. It is a major disappointment after putting ones entire life into it, but it happens. Companies sometimes go out of business. I was hoping for a more smooth transition.
