Thread: Which is the best php script for proxy sites??

There are so many php scripts for proxy sites out there like glype, zelune, phproxy and i am hearing few more like surrogafier and phantom..

I wanted to know which one is the least resource consuming?? I do not care about bandwidth but I want the script to be light on my CPU..

So which on is the best??

If you look at sites like Tech-Faq or Centurian proxy list you will see right now that Glype is the most popular and then comes phproxy. Glype is the preferred choice as it is still well supported and updated unlike phproxy. As for the others they are not holding there own any longer so they are becoming a thing of the past.

PHProxy is growing older, and out dated. Good in its days, however many flaws to using it.

Glype is light on resources, and like Bill said, becoming the more popular script.

i completely agree with you Mr.Bill
the only problem with glype is that it eats up RAM like anything

in that case i found that zelune was doing pretty good as long as it was devoloped before the launch of phphantom which is again a resource hog

zelune was way too lighter than phproxy and used the least resources and supported more sites than phproxy so if anyone would like to give a second choice next to glype, zelune is the best solution in my view

Pretty interesting reply, I never tried Zelune so far (or maybe I did, but I can't remember). Though I might give it a shot as I found a great template for Zelune Thanks for this reply, but is Zelune hard to edit?

ah..all the four replies said glype, zelune, phproxy..so I am back to where I was..

I am more concerned about RAM than bandwidth..I will try with Zelune as ankit said but will wait for few more zelune fans to convince me

I am presently with Glype though cos everyone recommended that while I was started few weeks back..

setting up zelune is as simple as phproxy but dont get confused as their are two versions of zelune. one was available on zelune.net and other at zelune.com and now both can be found at phphantom.com

i recently did a test on all popular proxy scripts including zelune(both), glype, phproxy, phphantom, cgi.

CGI proxy with ssl support is the best one if you have a private server and you just want limited number of proxies but with quality.

zelune is good if you setup new proxies everyday as they need least resources - lesser than phproxy too

glype is good if you want to stay updated always with all sites like facebook, myspace, bebo and youtube

the only way to sort it all out is start 2 proxies, one with zelune and one with glype, promote both of them exactly the same way and see the difference in traffic as well as resources, hope that sorts it all out.

CGIproxy is probably the most superior script but likewise as it's written in Perl and needs a lot of TLC on the server side to get it running well is not for the feint of heart...

Glype is both excellent and easy to use but can be a bit demanding on server resources once you start to scale to large numbers of visitors or if you have a high proportion of traffic to javascript heavy sites when using server side javascript parsing.

Phproxy is dated but solid. Needs a few fixes to prevent simple hotlinking abuse though. Was originally based on CGIproxy many years ago.

Zelune(.com & .net) are both originally Phproxy derived (look at the code VERY carefully for the .net version but it is) and while both solve some of the Phproxy shortfalls neither handles javascript well (so big site compatibility like Facbeook is out the window)

Phphantom is oddly derived from Zelune.net to begin with and is effectively Vapourware as it never did any of the many wonderful things it was touted to do (did they actually release it other than in limited beta?)
