    Better proxy hosting? Vps?

So im fed up with my shared hosting provider, im wasting time and money promoting proxys that are down every other day.

I want to also host several other niche sites and a arcade site in the future so im leaning towards vps hosting but i need to know the following

    1) what OS should it run? does it matter?

2)compared to shared hosting whats the learning curve? Can i just pay and start using cpanel?

3)for example santrex offers quite a few options one of which is a " metered ddos protected setup" whats the advantage?

    4) can you guys suggest some hosting?

    thanks!

I like to use Linux, Centos 5.

You can pay for managed, but you still need to set up the WHM, and it's pretty expensive.

If you want, I can offer you hosting for your sites. PM me please.

in my day job I manage several servers so Im all for the learning curve. I could use the experience of a vps, but i would prefer to keep the cost down, and obviously solid hosting is important.

Well, it's not too hard to learn, and you can get help. But there are three kinds of servers/VPS:

Unmanaged: You don't get a control panel, you don't really get anything - just an empty box (Highly unrecommended)

Semi-managed: You usually get help with set up, you must do reboots and patches and everything on your own. (Unrecommended for beginners)

Fully-managed: Everything, from control panel installation, to hardware replacement, reboots, security patches and upgrades is done. Once you set up the VPS, you can basically just log into your cPanel like a shared host. (Very recommended, but expensive usually)

Clandrive is my answer. The price is good and is better than shared proxy hosting.

Seems it's allowed on vps and dedicated. Maybe that's what they were talking about..

The Dedicated seem OK, the VPS have horrible RAM.
