    Yahoo and Google Groups

OK, I'm going to show my age here, but I don't understand how to use Yahoo and Google groups to promote my proxy sites. Maybe I need to pay someone to do this for me but for now I want to try it out myself.

Can someone explain how they work, are they like a forum and I put my proxies into my signature, or something else? And does anyone have a list of all the groups worth signing up for that send traffic?

1# Yahoo / Google groups where you can post, without being admin doesn't bring in traffic.

2# You can make a group here: http://groups.yahoo.com/start

When the group is made, change all your preferences through 'management'

Once that is done, go to the 'Promote' button, there you will see a code.. Ofcourse you can change it like as you like it.. I changed mine to this: RapidRemote.Info - Unblock Myspace & Facebook!

I will chime in on this.
The groups are not what they once were. Once upon a time a user wanting to find the newest proxy sites could simply search for a group and sign up. They would then get an email when someone posted a new post. Some of the groups are setup right that only the admin can post in them not any users. Some admin abuse the system and send out 10-34756 emails a day and your box get crammed with a bunch of crap. Other groups admins have opened there groups and anyone can post and these groups are mostly proxy owners spamming there own sites.

I have over the past year have tried many many ways to promote my sites. I have nothing good to report about the groups as they are not a viable means of getting traffic to your site.

It is well worth the effort to setup a email system of your own and add the subscription box to your own site. This way you can send out a occasional email announcing the release of a new proxy by your network.

If you feel you need to use a proxy group or want to see the results for yourself then I suggest looking for 3 things when signing up or looking to promote with them. Look at there activity, user count and is group only let admin post. As that would be the best bet. If you sign-up for them be sure to un-check the boxes that you want email notifications when someone posts.

This business is becoming very cut throat and promoting is becoming only effective if you can get a person to promote your site in there private email group. Keep in mind if you were a user how many emails would you want a day sent to your in-box about proxy sites then use a service that doesn't spam in boxes.

Last comment. There was a dp member offering to post your site to 35k+ members in a google group. Group was real and user count was what he said. I gave him a brand new proxy on a fresh IP and was the only promotion I did and the did not get one hit for 3 days until I added to other sites. So I for one am anti google and yahoo groups I am sure there are a couple good ones but after a year I have not seen one. They are easy to search for and I have signed up for a fair amount before drawing my own conclusions on them.

Not sure if I covered your actual question

Why? Do you need to be able to setup a mailing list or something?

Wouldn't I also need to have a proxy list to source new proxies? Or would I just announce my group to proxy owners and offer a free publicity until it reaches a good size?

At #1; of you promote your proxy on 'open groups' where everyone can post, than you will get something like Mr. Bill said.. almost zero hits...

Though, if you promote in a group like HotProxies (mine) with 2500 members and moderated (1 message per day) than your proxy will get much more traffic

And a proxy listing site isn't necesarry, for proxy lists, you can use 'Proxy.org' their 'new proxies' page; or the new page that will be added soon on ProxLists with new proxies

And yeah, once you reached 500 members, you can start doing paid mails at 0,25$....
    Than when you reach 1000; 1$ is a good price, and after that, just * / 1000 (I have 2500, so 2500/1000 = 2,5$ per mail)

Perhaps not the actual question but I would have asked about your experiences with them eventually so cutting to the chase is a valuable use of all of our time.

My own network is only 10 sites at the moment, but already earning $5 per day, and my goal to really test this as an MMO opportunity is to reach 200 proxies and hopefully considerably more income, although I'm mindful of a comment Shenron made in another thread along the lines he expects Google to start banning proxies from the index, and from AdSense at some stage in the future.

Looking beyond that time I see running proxy sites as being even more valuable since it will force out the players who aren't committed, but proxy owners will have to be smart about promoting their sites and earning from them.

Starting my own Yahoo group would be just one part of the overall marketing I'd need to do, so if I could develop a mailing list and target it at different groups of people from Aquarezz and yourself then I believe I could be as successful in generating traffic as you both. I've been doing a lot of thinking and researching this, hopefully I'm not lining myself up for a big fall.
