Thread: Can Thesis Be Called A Framework?

Hi,

There are scores of designers who call Thesis a framework.

They are just ga-ga over it.

What are your thoughts on this?

PS. I just decided to try out Thesis and am going to use it on my new blog.

It is a much of a framework as Sandbox. It just makes your theme development a lot faster for it has got a lot of functionality in it.
Maybe I should look at the definition of framework :P

I really don't like thesis. I guess it can be called a framework in a sense that it does have its own simplified code, "hooks", that developers can build off of, but I personally found it extremely limiting. It's a great looking theme but I don't want to have to spend the time learning an entirely new language when I can do pretty much everything it does on my own. That's just from a dev/design perspective.

Also, every thesis theme blog I see looks exactly the same, save for Blogussion, which underwent hours of modification.

I also believe that Thesis is a bit overhyped. It's just another theme with some extra functionalities that other themes don't offer -yet-.

The only Thesis blog I like, as Corey, is Blogussion because it doesn't look like Thesis at all.

I think it is a framework that you really do not need.If you have to style up everything why not create a theme from scratch..People say it's easier to style thesis but they end up hiring someone to style it for them. My thought is it's just a simple framework.

I do not think I can call Thesis a framework, it's just a good theme that has caught on with the masses.

A software framework, in computer programming, is an abstraction in which common code providing generic functionality can be selectively overridden or specialized by user code providing specific functionality.

So yeah. it IS a framework. haha

I think Chris Brogan uses it on his site. I'm sure you get a few popular bloggers using it, and it will get used by their followers as well.

Yes, conceptually speaking, it is a framework. But it's a framework that's quite dependent on another framework (Wordpress), so it's not as independent as most other frameworks are.
