    How to set maximum number of tags on homepage?

    Hello,
    My homepage is currently showing too many tags, it's just with the standard tag cloud from WordPress (NOT WP-CUMULUS).

    Does anyone have an idea how to lower the maximum of tags shown? I googled it but couldn't find an answer that was good enough

    Thanks in advance

    This may be an odd question, but...

    If the default tag cloud isn't providing the feature you need, why aren't you running one of the replacement tag cloud plugins?

    Here is how to do it, but after every upgrade of wordpress you will need to do it again.

    I did not ever tried this but its wise part, 45 tags is to many links from SEO stand.

    1. Open the category-template.php
    its located in the wp-includes folder

    2. Find this code in it

    function wp_tag_cloud( $args = '' ) {
    $defaults = array(
    'smallest' => 8, 'largest' => 22, 'unit' => 'pt', 'number' => 45,
    'format' => 'flat', 'orderby' => 'name', 'order' => 'ASC',
    'exclude' => '', 'include' => '', 'link' => 'view', 'taxonomy' => 'post_tag', 'echo' => true
    );

    its located under Display tags section...

    3. Change the 'number' => 45, to the number of desired tags

    4. Save & Reload

    Just a question. What's the use of tags in blogs/websites? Is it for the search engine? Or for the site's search function?

    Thanks Hellas it works!

    @1909gt, I'm doing it a little bit for the keywords in search engines, but I don't know if it helps, I guess it doesn't help a lot but heck... Mostly I'm doing it for the traffic ofcourse, members see a nice 'hot' tag, and they click it, than they go to more posts and there is a bigger chance they will click an advertisement
