Installing WordPress on gate.com hosted site.

Anyone have experience with setting up with gate.com? I am stuck, I called them and asked them for help twice and they don't seem to know what to do either.

This is for a friend's site or I would just use my server. I have never had so much frustration trying to install WordPress.

I've never used Gate.com. What problem are you running into?

I swear, by my life and my love of it, that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine.

    Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host's database server is down.
    • Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    • Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
    • Are you sure that the database server is running?
If you're unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.
I have tried multiple settings from what I can see in user control area I have the information correct, but gate.com is the worst at giving me real details or access to anything that would help.
It shows the server at mysql.heavensenthealth.com so instead of localhost I used mysql and the the whole name as well. No matter what I change I just get the same errors, so my guess is it doesn't actually reach the server. This was first with WP 2.7 and then I tried 2.8

According to gate.com's knowledgebase the server name is in this format:

Database server name. mysql.databaseusername.yourdomainname For example, mysql.todd.genericlinuxtest.com
and apparently mysql has to be activated before use? did you do that?

Here's the knowledgebase article SiteControl NG

Don't know if that'll help, or if you've already seen it, but anyhow.

    Cheers!

Thank you for the response, I tried that and it didn't work, but then I tried again for the 10th time to use mysql.domain.com and it worked.... why it worked this time and not all the other times I don't know....

I would never recommend gate.com because of the lack of control and the lack of abilities of the customer service who are in India and probably work for many companies, they had a hard time figuring out things as well.
