Red face Need Help With Wordpress User Edit

    Hi Guys,

Need some help with editing wordpress. Hoping that someone here could help me with where to change the code and what to change it to. Yes I did try to google it. I spent 40 min to no avail. It might help if I knew what to type in the search box LOL

Ok here are my two edits that I would like. I work better with pics.

I hope that this will be a simple clip copy paste. If you guys could tell me what to change that would be great

When you login to wordpress on the left side click all users you will have a page that looks something like this if you
    have set up for users.

As you can see it shows all the subscribers in alphabetical order That is what I would like changed. I would like the order to be the most current subscriber first. It is a pain to search all the new users out by name It woud be much easier for me if all the New user were listed on the same page or the order that they joined.

More less if you joined my site right now you name would be at the top of the list. Then when the next person joined they would be the top of the list and you would move down to and so on, and so on..

    Second Edit

When you join a wordpress site you get a screen that look like this.

Then you get a password e-mailed to you that looks like this.

What I would like to do is change that letter it sends people to something more personal with more information about my site.

Also by changing that letter around and adding more words to it I think/hope the spammers, and splogger that use bots will have a harder time because the user name and password would be buried in the email letter sent and not on the first two lines as it is now.

Hoping that someone can help me make these changes.

    Thanks in Advance

    Hi Sami

    Welcome back!

    Issue #1
Have you tried this plugin? "This plugin adds a new, sortable, column to the users lists, which shows the date they registered. This works just like it does on WordPress MultiSite, only for Single Site!"

    Recently Registered

    Issue #2

This looks like this plugin will solve issue #2. "Allows you to edit the WordPress Welcome/Forgot Password Emails to customize the content and even add an attachment."

    SB Welcome Email Editor

I have not tried either of these plugins, but they looks like they will resolve your issues.

Sami - with WP it's always best to look for plugins to solve your problems (or get one coded) rather than editing core code that will be over-written with any WP update. Hopefully TD's suggestions work for you.

Throughout the WP code there are "hooks" which let programmers intercept the behaviour of the blog and modify it with plugins.

    Hi,

The reason I wanted to edit the core code is because my WP is corrupted and part of the admin side don't work. I am really scared if I add another plugin the site might stop working entirely. I am lucky that I can even make a post. I can not edit tags add picture or anything. NO update to WP will be happening anytime soon, unless what is corrupted get fixed.

If either one of you guys would like to fix this corruption I have $60 to spare if you have time to work on it.

So that is why I wanted a code.

    Hi,

That's ok I would rather be on vacation. But if anyone could help me with the code or tell me what keyword to search for so I could find it would be helpful.

If that is the same site I looked at a couple of years ago, the site is probably not corrupted. You very likely have a conflict with some of the plugins or your theme is not compatible with current versions of WordPress.

Andy is correct. The core code should never be modified. Technically speaking, the only code that is modifiable is the theme or a custom plugin.

Have you tried updating WordPress to the current version? If you have and you still have the problem, make sure the plugins are all updated. If that doesn't fix it, try disabling each of the plugins one at a time to see which one might be causing the problem. If none of those steps identifies the problem, the issue is likely an incompatible theme. It is not unusual for old or poorly coded themes to be incompatible with newer versions of WordPress. If it comes down to that, try a new theme. You can always switch over to the TwentyTen, TwentyEleven or TwentyTwelve theme temporarily to see if the admin problems go away.

I'm involved in an intense training program for the next couple of weeks, so I cannot take a look at it right now. However, it shouldn't be scary if you follow the steps I gave you. Plus, you can keep your $60 in your pocket.

    Hi,

Yes that is the same site. I have done NO update to it at all, I tried once and it got worse and more stuff quit working Your answer to the problem at the time was this

"The problem appears to be a conflict with JQuery or JavaScript, but it could take some time to find that. The theme uses lots of external JQuery files. The new version of WordPress also use lots of JQuery and JavaScript. I looked at the JQery files for your theme and they are all either encoded or minimized, which makes them extremely difficult to work with."

You also said "There is still a possibility that it could be a plugin because plugins sometimes react differently depending upon when they were installed. Many plugins are developed by inexprienced programmers. Also, any part of the data in the database related to a plugin could have become corrupted. There are still several possibilities."

I can not change the theme, for if I did I would need to change over 2000 + jpg, and 2000+ posts and 200+ pages would all need to be redone. Plus my own plugin would need to be reedited to the site as well.

I just don't have the time to redo everything or the money to do that project.

It would be like starting from scratch.

So I make do with what I have.

    Hi,

I added the plugin Recently Registered it works Just Great Thanks it does just what I was hoping for and more. That is the good thing. The downside one more thing in the admin quit working It is like every time I update or add a plugin I lose another part of the admin.

It works so I can live with it.

    Thanks

To find some text somewhere within a directory structure of files, I use the "Find in files" search feature of NotePad++ So for the email message, you could find it in a file and edit the text. But with WP, the changes would be erased on the next update. And you risk breaking your whole site if you introduced a PHP error.
