No. It is not possible to split the database unless you want to re-write the WordPress core applications. I would find it very hard to believe that a dedicated server cannot handle a WordPress site--regardless of its size.
If you really did have a problem with resource capacity, you could split the database from the applications and run them on two separate dedicated servers. That would not require re-writing of any core files.
If your database is slowing down, then optimize it daily or weekly.

Make sure you have a page cache:
WordPress › WP Super Cache « WordPress Plugins
This avoids WP rebuilding pages from scratch on each page request.
With a cache, the page is stored as a static file so database access is minimized and the page renders faster.

Wow, you must have pretty huge blog... I think splitting one database in two on the same host won't help even if it is be possible to do.
As somebody above has suggested, use WP Super Cache to reduce the number of MySQL requests.

one of them is on my signature ..... condo (smaller db for now)
currently with 150k posting and receiving around 15k UV and 100k pageview (daily, due to hosting restriction) else i can get 15x pageview on daily uv (base on pass record) ... changing to dedi soon but i think it only cool for a very short period![]()
Do you import feed from real estate listing websites in wordpress DB and than using search? It is kind of strange platform for search engine...
