    Should/Will Google Buy WordPress?

Sparking from a point made in another thread, I think we should make a seperate thread about it.

    So, should Google buy Wordpress?
More importantly, will Google buy Wordpress?

I mean, there are no rumours yet, but in my opinion Google should definately look into buying Wordpress.

Blogging is a big part of the internet, and, lets face it, Google want to rule the internet, but in my opinion they will never rule blogging until they have a CMS that will revolutionise blogging, an I think that's where Wordpress comes in.

    So, what do you think?

I think this will never happen, as Matt said that in his lifetime he may never 'sell' Word Press. And he also said that he wows to keep wordpress open source forever.

Hmm, I hadn't seen that quote before...

I'm sure if (for some reason) he were to sell Wordpress to Google, they would want to keep it open source, basically to replace blogspot. They clearly want to dominate the internet and they can't do that without a popular blogging platform in my opinion.

Hehehe...anything can happen. My guess is Google will buy wordpress, but only if the CEO of wordpress lets it .

Why? Because wordpress is famous now. Yeah, I agree with Simon; Google wants to rule the Internet!

Should Google buy wordpress? Yes and no.

Yes - Google would probably add more useful features to wordpress and we could use some of Google's tools on wordpress.

No - If Google takes over wordpress, there will be glitches in wordpress-powered blogs probably. Google might also make useless/dangerous features that could ruin our wordpress blogs.

I've got to share Farrhad's point on this one. The odds tha Google buys WP are almost inexistant. In fact, it is in Wordpress' best interest to remain independant than to become affiliated to a big company.

No.. I hope Google not taking WP either. This WP work as comparative tool for blogspot.com to compare which one is better (since no one use blog that popular enough like blogspot)

Wordpress is not that big to get Google's attention. Google goes after something that gets billions and billions of people to used their service daily. For example Google bought youtube because billions of people use youtube daily....Wordpress would have to dominate every CMS out there and become one of the most used open source CMS for it to even be considered a target to Google.

I don't think matt will never sell Wordpress. Anyways, if by any chance Google wanted to buy Wordpress, I wouldn't support it.

Don't get me wrong, Google is a giant and provides a lot of great services for free and most of them work flawlessly... but then they already have a blogging platform (Blogspot). Instead of buying Wordpress, they should focus on making Blogspot more friendly and customizable.

I think from a business perspective, Blogspot isn't really doing much for them. WP is far more popular than Blogspot and would therefore be a good investment for any company IMO. The thing is now, Blogspot is so behind Wordpress that the only way for them to catch up is to buy wordpress (which we all seem to think won't happen) :P
