WordPress 3.7 Has Been Released
WordPress 3.7 is out, but with a disturbing change. The core files are automatically updated whenever a new release is launched. It looks like this will disable sites if the update fails. I have seen that happen several times with clients' sites.
If you want to disable automatic updates, here are the various methods to use.
The definitive guide to disabling auto updates in WordPress 3.7
If you have never seen it happen, when an automatic update fails, the entire site goes down with the message: "Briefly Unavailable for Scheduled Maintenance. Check Back in a Minute." displayed on every page. Re-running the update rarely works. The only fix is to remove a file named .maintenance in the root directory.
The disabling instructions are poorly written, especially for someone without tech skills. I am not even sure which is the best method to use, but from reading through the page, it looks like using method #4 an adding the code to the wp-config.php file is the easiest.
