Wordpress Instant Search Possible Like Google Instant??

    Hello Friends,
I am new here, so please corporate as It may take a while to learn how to post a thread.

I would like to say that I am pretty fond of Google Instant search results. I simply love it.

I was thinking if its possible for me to add similar thing in my wordpress blog. I want to show something to my users who never saw search results on other blogs like mine.

Any plugin or custom coding, any suggestion?? Is it possible for me to get it or should i stop dreaming.

It is not possible to do that without keeping a connection open to the server. Web servers do not normally operate that way, so I think you need a special server to maintain the open connections. A plugin will not do it unless it provides a connection to Google's server, which I suspect Google will not allow.

To answer your question, yeah, you need to wake up. You are dreaming.

Sure, just put the google search button on your blog.
Google loves the added income when blogs send them traffic.
Heck, any site that sends google traffic, google loves.

I think Instant Search is annoying, but it is good for seeing which related search phrases people are using.

When you think about what it takes to accomplish Instant Search, especially given the range of possible search phrases as someone begins to type a search phrase, the technology used is amazing.

But google has been sued all over this planet over the instant search showing things it should not show.
Just lost a case in Australia where if one started to type in something, it showed some guy as a crook, a murderer, etc.
    He beat google on that!

That is one of the problems with bleeding edge technology.

I assume that the Aussie was not really a crook or murderer. With today's courts and some of the goofy cases I see, it is hard to say that definitively.

If the original poster wants instant search results based on their own blog content, then it can be done using Ajax, Javascript, and PHP coding. But it may be a bit slow compared to Google's.

I think it would be real slow compared to Google Instant. I suspect that they only way that Google can accomplish that level of responsiveness is by keeping the entire keyword database in active memory, as well as maintaining a live connection to the server. Amazon has been doing that with their product database for over 10 years.

You just cannot keep doing queries with a MySQL database every time someone types a character. It would be way too resource intensive.

In the Google article I pointed to they claim that they are using 15 new technologies, but they don't say what they are.

Agreed, it wouldn't be practical to store a cache of all likely searches for your own site, and serve them up from memory.
